We live in a society that praises getting things done as quickly as possible. It doesn’t seem to matter if important aspects are compromised along the way. It is sad but this is how the majority of us even approach our eating habits today. It is this hurry up I don’t have time for this attitude that is responsible for the rise and continued success of fast food restaurants. We seem to be very out of touch with what food is. Many of us approach it as something to be prepared as quickly as possible. It often feels like such a burden to even bother with preparing a meal after a long day at work. Why should we bother when there are so many convenient options for us out there? Frozen dinners and canned pasta grace tons of dinner tables each day, I believe solely in an effort to get everything that we are required to do done. I propose no one should eat like this but for those of us trying to follow a yeast free diet these convenient “foods” are not even an option.A yeast free diet, also commonly called the Candida or anti-Candida diet is the cornerstone of treatment for a medical condition known as candidiasis. Candidiasis is characterized by an overgrowth of Candida albicans in the intestinal system. Candida albicans is a typically benign type of yeast naturally present in our intestinal system. It is an innate part to the delicate microflora that helps keep us healthy. The Candida albicans works in accord with “friendly” bacteria to accomplish this task. Unfortunately, external factors such as overuse of antibiotics, oral contraceptives and diets high in processed/sugary foods often disrupt this delicate balance and allow the Candida albicans to morph into an opportunistic organism which in turn produces a variety of symptoms throughout the body. The yeast free diet seeks to correct this imbalance by eliminating or greatly reducing foods that feed the yeast. Since processed/sugary foods are a huge contributor to candidiasis these types of foods must be removed from ones diet. These foods are however the ones that we have grown to rely on in terms of being able to eat quickly. So what is a candidiasis sufferer to do about having some appropriate food to eat quickly? Life is not going to slow down for us just because we are trying to live
