We know that food can be pleasurable and provide comfort. After all, whole food groups are labeled ‘comfort food’ and we have all heard of ‘comfort eating’. The implication is that fat people need more comforting that others and so eat more. As we have already seen, overweight people are treated with less respect than their skinny counterparts and this alone will contribute to the factors than led them to comfort eat.Psychologically it is far harder for an overweight person to attempt a diet than it is for a person only a few pounds overweight.
