The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as “food stamps”, served nearly 27 million children in 2011– putting the number to one in four children living in the United States. The new statistics released by the US Department of Agriculture and US Census Bureau indicate a growing trend in the number of people, specifically children, using programs such as SNAP. Indeed, the increase of the food stamp program has risen with spending that has been doubled in the last four years and quadrupled since 2001.
